Artist History
He has been attached to music from a very early age, singing Mother Goose rhymes by heart all through the day. His first pop song was Neil Diamond s Song sung blue and he still sings it to this day. Piano lessons started at age six but discontinued two years later. The guitar came in a year later and basic three-chord stuff was underway in record time. (There was omnipresent stage fright though)
In 1989, The Music Director at The Frank Anthony Public School, Bangalore, V.Narayanaswamy, put him on stage as a tenor in the school choir, which went on to win the Basel Mission festival of Christmas Music that year. Dominic took the guitar a bit seriously, stage fright disappeared and the first rock n roll band in the history of the school was formed. It was called SKWAREMATRIX.
A long stint with church choirs followed. Like-minded individuals from these came together in REFLECTIONS which ultimately disbanded in 1992. Meanwhile, Dominic D’Cruz and Party were regulars on All India Radio from 1991 through 1996 in the Yuvavani slot . Dominic directed a special Easter programme for children on A.I.R. in 1994. Constant jamming with the top dance band of the time Shyam and The West Wind, led him to a band called WILD ORCHIDS which took him in on guitars and vocals. Two months later MILESTONE was born with Dominic at the head of affairs, and went on to become the top dance band in Bangalore. Performances all over South India built up their reputation of being the most accommodating band around.
He has done his bit with private choral groups as bass guitarist for the CECILIAN CHOIR ,SYMPHONIA ,THE BANGALORE SCHOOL OF MUSIC CHORAL ENSEMBLE ,and THE NOSTALGIA GROUP. Theatre productions have seen a foot in as well. ANGELINA, saw him work with his teacher, V.Narayanaswamy , FIDDLER ON THE ROOF and THE FRANKENSTEIN MONSTER SHOW
A flair for writing combined with an open mind and ear for music has brought out the composer in him. A few compositions are already on the Internet while a gospel album is on the cards. His lifetime ambition is to play with a reggae band while he hates one-line songs and his firm belief is – There IS a God and He likes me !
