    Artist History
Becca and Mikenstein started showing interests in music when they began jamming on their parents' instruments as children. They quickly decided to pick up guitar and bass, respectively, and showed no signs of becoming casualties to the phases teens usually go through with musical instruments. In 1987, at the ages of 11 and 9, they formed their first punk band, Angry Youth , with an older sister, Jen, and several friends. Somehow this band endured for 13 years, through three states, college hiatus, and the accident, which took Jen's life. All of these experiences made the musical bond stronger and became the inspiration for much of the music. In 2000, after sitting in on drums part-time and recovering from a broken shoulder, Scott decided to leave behind the redundant bar-band scene he had endured for 5 years after the break-up of local thrash metal icons, Uncle Fester, and joined Becca and Mike for their fresh and original alternapunkrockmetal sound (for those of you that like "categories"). He quickly found the freedom and appreciation of his 20+ years of experience extremely refreshing. Then, in 2001, the band found themselves on a plateau that was forcing them to change direction away from their original inspirations. They decided that another member could allow them the freedom they needed to return to what they did best. An ad was placed for a vocalist, but was answered by a clean-cut guitar player named Arianit who looked for an outlet other than playing with limited volume in his apartment bedroom. Becca decided that no one would ever sing her songs like they deserved to be sung without having gone through the experiences they were written about. Although most songs had already been sung by her, she decided to officially take over lead vocals and, after hearing Ari play for 10 minutes, was excited to allow him to step up to lead guitar. Last, but not least, while Becca and Mike were acting as zombies in a Haunted House, Rita (acting as possessed Regan from "The Exorcist") was discovered and asked to help out on some backing vocals. Shortly after joining, her many talents began to surface. With 9 years on the violin, guitar and bass abilities, and extensive web design experience, she quickly became an asset that was unnoticed in her earlier musical ventures. With that, Torn Elements was formed from a group of people with not much in common except for a passion to put out real music about real life and real experiences. They don't have "the look" and they don't have "the sound" that the industry requires to make it big, but they will anyway . . .
