Artist History Stemming from Vancouver’s hotbed of local musical talent CATAPULT fuses progressive rock, metal, and pop blended with an acoustic southern influence. Conceived in 1997, forming CATAPULT proved to be more difficult than anticipated. singer/acoustic guitar player MYK SHAFLIK who’s past includes a long history in the Vancouver music scene with credits that include vocalist/songwriter for DemoLISTEN award winning band OPIUM UNDERGROUND, as well as JOKERS WILD, NASTY TOYZ, RANSOM, and a host of other cover and original bands early in his career. Taking some time off to work on his song writing and guitar playing MYK felt the itch to play live again. A chance phone call from former JOKERS WILD band mate and guitar player STEVE GAUNT, who’s time from ’97 to ’99 was spent recording and playing around town with Vancouver band PULL MY FINGER, started CATAPULT in motion. Needing a solid back line brought close friend and former OPIUM UNDERGROUND band mate JASON BURWASH on board to play bass guitar. After a short six month in LUSH GUPPIE and some time off JASON was ready to play again. Filling the final position in CATAPULT was as easy as looking across the bar MYK works at as live tech/promoter to see Nova Scotia native DERYK FREEMAN. Drumming for bands in Toronto, New York and Los Angeles, DERYK had no problem fitting into the fold. With help and support, will be releasing a six song EP recorded at Vancouver’s MAGMA MUSIC STUDIOS co-produced by MYK and LUCUS TRUMAN.
