Artist History “Long Journey” A Survivor Speaks Out and Braves new Ground on the Solo Artists Scene Erik Hendin has been called many things: Sonic Explorer. Tragic Comedian. Rock Star. Survivor. With innovative guitar work, poignant lyrics and an intense emotional presence, Hendin has been making a buzz in NYC clubs and folk festivals around the country. His recent track “Disappear” was praised by MakeAStar.com as “a great song with an artist who can obviously perform live and has a lot to say.” Hendin keeps the listener guessing with tuneful songs about anything from love and transformation to Indian chanting. A Taxi reviewer said of Erik’s guitar playing, “Doc Watson would be proud.” In a course of events that would change his life forever, on April 12, 2001 his girlfriend committed suicide. Erik began to write and perform songs like “Disappear” and “Unreality” (now on the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention's (AFSP) website at www.afsp.org, under “Songs for Survivors”). "Recording songs like Disappear and Unreality was one of the hardest things I've ever had to do. It was a really disturbing but cathartic process, and it was important to me to make people aware that suicide is a global problem – worldwide over a million people a year die by suicide. People need to know that there are organizations like AFSP that can provide help through survivors groups, college outreach programs and research efforts to help prevent unnecessary deaths. AFSP lets people know that there is help when people need it the most.” Hendin integrates the excitement, talent and drama of a seasoned performer into an emotional style with a powerful message based on profound circumstances.
