The Dark Half is Medulla Nocte/Murder One frontman Paul Catten locked in a dark room with his own personal open book. He could have done anything he wanted but somehow you knew it wouldn’t be about picking daisies and spreading joy – as if his lyrical onslaught via the medium of extreme metal wasn’t enough, the man has an even darker side. Brooding inward looking soundbites, ghostly keyboards and piano swoops, 9/11 soundbites, distorted vocal passages – and yet it is a thing of utmost beauty, an almost private thing – a brooding, swelling thing that you almost feel your intruding on.
