Artist description
Scapegoat is about a mix of Beauty and Ugliness. Playing pretty harmonic
hooks and choruses next to ruff hardcore esk parts. Lead singer Kit Walters
has a powerful singing voice that can turn it all around and screech, roar and growl.
Its all about dynamics in Scapegoat, Just because the band is primarily a heavy
band they don't feel the need to be constrained by their title. They have and will
write a ballad with Cello (Let Me Drown) or their version of a punk song (Bunnies
and Guns, Downward). With a combination of beauty, brutality and soaring vocal hooks
theres something in Scapegoat for everyone. |

Artist History
In the fall of 1998 guitarist Justin Driscoll
and bassist Dan Royer sat down and decided to
take their ambitions of a punk band and put
them to work. After about a week of searching
they found Dan Hitselberger, the only good drummer at their small school. After about 2 months of practicing they realized that the whole idea of a punk band wasn't working. They then decided to go in a more heavy direction influenced by acts such as Nirvana, Five Times Down, Deftones, and the then tolerable Korn. The three-member line up practiced for around 6 months with different singers coming and going. All of singers who practiced with the band were short lived. None of them fit the style of the band. Finally during the summer of 1999 bassist Dan Royer attended a musically oriented camp where he discovered the permanent vocalist of Sckapegoat, Kit Walters. Kit came to practice with the other band mates and it clicked. The vocal style of Kit Walters fit the heavy, straightforward riffs of Justin Driscoll, the neck snapping beats of Dan Hitselberger and the low jabbing bass playing of Dan Royer. The band then named "Scapegoat" rushed into a studio to record some tracks. By the release of their first EP Faceless, they earned two things: shows at local clubs and a copyright infringement. The band was forced to change their name from "Scapegoat" to the misspelled "Sckapegoat." The band was going to change the name all together but they had already played a show at the local Tremont Music Hall. That was the down side to the name, considering they did not want to be categorized with many of the rap-core bands with misspelled names. (Ex. Korn, Limp Bizkit,) After a few months of playing around Charlotte Sckapegoat was given an opportunity by Tracie Nasta of Nasty promotions to play a Battle of the bands at Tremont Music Hall. After winning 1st place in the event they got the prize of recording with Rob Tavaglione of Catalyst Recording. On October 27 of 2000 Sckapegoat released their second effort "Two On One" which landed them a recognizable slot in the Charlotte music scene. After playing around Charlotte for two years Sckapegoat is back in the studio putting together their new album Element of Design, due out for release by March of 2002.
