    Artist description
Winner of 2000 International D'Angelo Strings Competition, Jakub Jerzy Omsky (Jakub Trawkowski) started his quest to become music at the age 6 when he chose to learn the cello in Poland. He was soon hailed a child prodigy in Poland which led to numerous concert, television and radio engagements. He was guided by prof. Arnold Rezler as his youngest disciple at the Higher Music Conservatory in Warsaw. Unsatisfied child, as he always was he decided to become the music itself. So when he was seventeen he decided to escape the madness in order to discover the essence of music. Omsky traveled with small amount of money, one bag, and the cello to the United States of America. Money and the bag disappeared, but the cello and music he stuck to. In his studies he was assisted by professors Peter Rejto and Andor Toth, Jr. at the Oberlin College Conservatory of Music in Ohio. He also performed in prestigious festivals: Tanglewood, Aspen and the Music Academy of the West. He was financially assisted in his quest by Polish Government Merit Scholarship, Oberlin Conservatory Dean's Talent Award, Gabor Rejto Fellowship, Performing Arts Scholarship Foundation, Baroness Leni Fe Bland Award, "Rzeczpospolita" newspaper, Kosciuszko and Batory Foundation grants, as well as financial aid and help of numerous people of good will. He was honored by the First Prize at the 24th International D'Angelo Strings Competition as the first cellist in its history. Omsky recorded on various labels (RCA Victor Red Seal, Summit Records, PlayBall Production) in classical, old-time fiddling and jazz styles. He has designed sound and consulted in theater. Frequent guest on KEYT News Radio, KDB, and KCSB radio stations, Recognized by the Santa Barbara INDEPENDENT as one of "music makers of the year 2000" alongside Jeff Bridges and Jazz master Charles Lloyd
