Artist History
I have been playing guitar since the age of 14 and writing songs
almost as long. Formed first band (4 months after first picking up a
guitar) called "Mess-Age". Played a few gigs in the Lanarkshire area before
and after our singer (Miss Carolyn G Robertson) was taken to be with the
Lord in the winter of 1998. Throughout, I was constantly doing solo work
and writing more songs than you can shake a stick at (all of which I have
now forgotten).
I relocated to Perth in the summer of 1999 after spending a few weeks
leading worship at a youth camp for a church in Wichita, Kansas (The camp
itself was in Arkansas). The reason for the move, to study music
performance at Perth College. By the summer of 2001, I had successfully
completed both NC and HNC courses in music performance, (in the latter
receiving 7 merits out of 13 modules). I was also married and now have a
son called Matthew.
Currently I am working on my debut E.P., a 6 track going under the working
title of "All of us Mannequins". I play most instruments myself but am
joined by the fabulous drumming talents of Aaron Kennedy, (5 dollar soul,
Joshua's Promise), as well as recruiting a college classmate to play double
bass on one track. The tracks on the E.P. will be (in no particular order):
Beautiful (she knows)
First Class Hero
Candy Cane
Euphemistic Appraisal
Car Sick
Widow's Star
Music: I listen to loads of music, and I mean tons of it, all the time. I
am one of those irritating people who gets genuinely excited by music even
in a public place. The artists I am listing to at the moment are: Pedro
the lion, Damien Jurado, Elliott Smith, Tom Waits, The Cure, Nicolai Dunger,
Low, The Smiths, Red House Painters, Sparklehorse, Jeff Buckley, 5 dollar
soul, Clem Snide and Weezer. At other times I listen to anything from Woody
Guthrie to Linkin Park, Portishead to Eels or Gram Parsons to Alien Ant
Farm.
My Music: These days I have a pretty large song list (compared to previous
months). I think that it runs at nearly 20 songs that are finished, and
maybe another 10 or so that are on the way. All in all I think I have
roughly about a good 1½ - 2 hours of completely original material. I am
also prone to the odd cover (odd being the operative word), including, "Boys
Don't Cry" by The Cure, "On the Nickel" by Tom Waits and a brief bout of the
Smiths' "I Know It's Over", to name but a few.
I hope this meandering rubbish has enlightened you as to who I am and what I
do. The E.P. Will hopefully be finished before the summer and a release
date will be announced as and when I am aware of the time.
I pray that this music that was given to me will touch everyone who hears
it.
Trying his best for a forgiving master
