Artist History
Blood Duster formed in August 1991 gathering influences from early grindcore bands like Napalm Death and Carcass and mixing elements from 70's rock bands. Taking their name from a song by John Zorn's NAKED CITY set the scene for the wickedly disturbing lyrical content that their songs would boast.
In early 1992 the Menstrual Soup demo was released showing the bands love for the grinding rock style that has since become there trademark. During this formative period, BLOOD DUSTER were granted the opening slot on the Melbourne leg of CARCASS' Australian tour, gaining the band a steady local following, which has remained strong in support of their brand of sickness throughout their career.
Mid 1993 saw the release of Fisting the Dead, a 17 track MCD on Australia's infamous Dr. Jim's Records. BLOOD DUSTER rammed their point home with such unforgettable classics as Chunky Bit, Kill, Kill, Kill and the album's closer, the now-classic Derek. The band continued to play live and built a reputation for the absurd and crude behavior that is part of any Blood Duster show - a trend which continues to this day . A few line up changes delayed the band until mid 1995 when their sophomore effort, Yeest was released in Australia.
Maintaining insane grinding elements, Yeest proved to be a turning point for the band with live shows happening more often and to increasing crowds Australia-wide. Yeest was also the point where U.S. label Relapse Records started to show interest in the band, choosing to release both Fisting the Dead and Yeest on one CD for the rest of the world. One Yeest track in particular, Albert, was included on the Relapse/Nuclear Blast America Death...Is Just the Beginning 3 compilation, introducing BLOOD DUSTER to North and South America, as well as Europe. An Australian tour with BRUTAL TRUTH soon followed, and proved to be a huge success, while the word quickly spread outside of Australia about these weirdo's formidable sound.
Late 1997 saw the band's first full-length album Str8outtanorthcote released to the public. Str8outtanorthcote showcased the band's classic rock influences (as well as an obsessive love of KYUSS), combining into a more varied sound that went against the grain of the typical 'death metal' sound of the time.
Now with the much anticipated release of the latest in the Blood Duster catalogue, Cunt. With a sort of new line-up (old members have rejoined) this album sets out from the beginning to be the most extreme the band has released. Recorded at the same studio that saw the birth of both Fisting the Dead and Yeest, CUNT sees a return to a more 'grind' based sound. Expounding on the 'psychorockmenstrualgrindporn' sound that oozed from the band's classic recordings, Cunt attacks the stupidity of "nu-metal", underground scenesters and PC tightwads, delivering the band's most depraved grindcore to date |
