Artist History Gene Samero, vocals, and Jimmy Orfe, guitar, formed a bond in the late 70's while riding the bus to grade school together. Spending afternoons listening to records of the Beatles, Rolling Stones, and the Doors was a very common occurrence. "Between all of our parents, there was a wide range of musical flavor." Hailing from Burlington County, New Jersey, they honed their sound in the early 90's while playing the club circuit throughout the Philadelphia area. "We really cut our teeth at the Woodshed in Riverside! We were all underage, loud and inexperienced, but full of energy. We owe everything to that club and it will always feel like home to us." In 1996, they relocated to Florida, where they would all live in the same house for 2 years. "The main focus of the band has always been about brotherhood, we are a family. Being able to perform is something we hold very sacred, it's a privilege and it has grown to be a responsibility. The place where I am most alive, is on stage, that's where the magic happens." theDiligents have been known to generate an infectious buzz, through the energy of their live shows, while expanding the ranks of their loyal following wherever they perform. "We've always been a working band. We are proud to say that, despite illness and personnel changes, we have never had to cancel a gig." Performing is just one aspect of their career, most of the band’s time is spent rehearsing, writing and producing material for records. "The studio is something we can only afford a few days out of the year, so we try to make the most out of it." Rob Ellis on Bass Guitar, and Billy Simon on Drums, provide theDiligents with a driving backbeat. Their sense of rhythm and creativity add a distinct flavor to all of the songs. "Rob layers tasty Bass melodies under the core of the tune, which provide a great foundation to build a song upon. We can always count on Billy to push the energy of the song to its extreme boiling point, without missing a single beat. These two seasoned musicians have rounded out our sound and are a pleasure to be on stage with." theDiligents' sound is an astounding blend of poetic lyrics, delivered with an acute sense of melody and harmony. Stylistically, they have been compared to the polished sounds of Live, Nirvana, Third Eye Blind and the Replacements. An evening with theDiligents is awe-inspiring and always includes intensity, conviction and spontaneity, all wrapped up in a passion-filled performance. "Preparing for a show is like taking a test, you study the musical movements and how you can physically translate them on stage. Our reputation is on the line at every performance, we don't ever want to walk away feeling like we could have given the fans more. It's all or nothing." theDiligents have logged nearly a decade of experience performing their brand of Pop/Rock hits to crowds at local, regional and international venues. They are currently enjoying their careers as songwriters and performing artists, on a full time National basis. "All we've ever wanted to do is relate to people through making music, it's the only language that everyone can understand. Being an independent band isn’t always easy. You have to make it all happen yourself, but then again we don’t have to do anything that we don’t want to.”
