Artist History
My name is Rob Skane and I play music that I describe as GarageFolkRockNRoll. Garage and Folk are my modifiers. My life’s subject is always RockNRoll. I enjoy standing before audiences armed only with voice, guitar and vision. I can strum, but I can’t hide and I like it that way.
I have been honored to have had my music compared to the music of Peter Case, Elvis Costello, Bob Dylan, Jakob Dylan, Peter Gabriel, Grant Hart, Lampchop, Mercury Rev, Lou Reed, Robbie Robertson, Sparklehorse, Pete Townshend and Paul Westerberg.
And I have had the pleasure of sharing the stage with Jeff Buckley, Dion DiMucci, Alejandro Escovedo, Jeffrey Gaines, Juliana Hatfield, Jim Lauderdale, NRBQ, Graham Parker, Jonathan Richman, The Silos, Dan Zanes and many other fine performers.
My guitar and I have performed at CBGB’s, CB’s Gallery, Brownies, The Fort at The Sidewalk Cafe, The Cornelia Street Cafe, Jane’s Cafe, Arlene Grocery; all of these venues are in NYC, NY. 7th Street Entry in Minneapolis, MN; Lounge Ax in Chicago, IL; Shank Hall in Madison, WI; Free Times Cafe in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and literally hundreds of other cafes, bars, bookstores and coffee houses.
I am passionate about my music and share that passion with anyone who will listen.

Press Reviews
"...Ravishing songs...beautifully raw..."
J. Eric Smith, METROLAND
"...Skane has crafted an adventerous, delightfully lo-fi collection with SELFNOISE..."
Greg Haymes, ALBANY TIMES UNION
"...uses equal amounts of Robbie Robertson and Lou Reed to create his descriptive and personal vignettes...Skane relies on the lyrics to carry most tracks...each song builds on the momentum of the previous track, giving SelfNoise a strong cohesion...the overall effort is superior..."
Jason MacNeil, ALL MUSIC GUIDE
"...Rob Skane composes songs that draw you in, with lyrics that are heartfelt and at times heartbreaking and haunting...Skane writes great, catchy songs with smart, strong lyrics...He's an American auteur who suffers only from the fact that he doesn't have a label backing him...He deserves a larger audience..."
Mike Kylis, DELUSIONS OF ADEQUACY
"...Inventor of 'garagefolkrocknroll' by way of Albany NY. Rob creates lo-fi stories with very interesting characters. I describe it as looking at a photo from close range, then slowly panning and then seeing the forest from the trees..."
Dan Herman, RADIO CRYSTAL BLUE
"...Skane's stellar new album, SelfNoise has an intimate and often sparse feel that has as much to do with the albumÕs production as it does with its subject matter...His hushed vocals amplify the up-close-and-personal vibe, creating the sensation that the singer is sharing confidences with his listeners..."
