Artist description
On the night of November 16, 1964, in Mt. Vernon, New York, a young
couple from North Carolina, (Leon & Beatrice Sellars) became the proud
parents of their third boy child, whom they would name Tracy. The
mother, having been filled with the Holy ghost only hours before, had to
be rushed to the hospital for delivery only hours after singing, shouting,
and giving God praise as the anointing fell fresh on her in a service
that same night.
This boy child would be special to the kingdom of God and no doubt,
many felt that the same anointing that consumed the mother on the night
of his birth had a direct impact on the newborn boy child
( As Jeremiah 1:5).
By the age of 4-years, Tracy started to develop his God-given talents
and gifts. By that time the family had moved back to North Carolina
and he and his two older brothers, Joey and Eric, and his two first
cousins, Kedrick and Vernon Gadand, were discovered singing in
the boy's bedroom as the parents rehearsed in the front living
room of the Sellars home. The parents had formed a group called
the Related Singers and practiced every Saturday at one of the
homes.
Little did they know that their little boys were experimenting
with their gifts to sing in the back room. In a short while the boys were even able to play guitars as they sang to the glory of God. Almost immediately, a new group called 'The Related Juniors" was formed. By 1972, this group was sweeping the East Coast, singing gospel music especially in North Carolina and Virginia, with their wonderful harmony and musical abilities. Tracy quickly emerged as the lead singer, as people packed out anniversaries and concerts to hear the boys sing. It would not be uncommon for the boys to have five to six engagements on any given weekend. They were invited to sing on programs with many professional gospel artists, which included:
- The Sensational Nightingales
- The Williams Brothers
- Willie Neal Johnson & The Gospel Keynotes
- The Yancey Family of Virgilina, VA
- Slim and the Supreme Angels and an

The Related Jrs. remained an active singing group until the early 1980 's. As the members approached manhood, some married and pursued jobs and educational goals. Each one yet continued to sing and play music for church choirs, or groups.
Before moving back to New York, in 1986, as a young man, Tracy received the Holy ghost and accepted the call of God into the ministry under the pastoral leadership of Bishop Preston Graves, pastor of the Smyrna Church of Christ in Reidsville, NC. He lead numerous songs with the Smyrna Church choir and the Jones Cross Baptist Church choir. In New York he would continue his ministerial training as he worked faithfully at the Bibleway Church in New Rochelle, under the leadership of Bishop 0 'dell Lyerly.
While in fellowship with the Bibleway Churches of Our Lord Jesus Christ Worldwide, Intl., the Lord allowed Tracy to meet Minister Kenny Dorsey, Jr. Together they would form a group called The Messengers for Christ. Since both were employed by Continental Airlines, the two would travel the country writing and singing songs. Together the energetic duo attended and sometimes performed at the following places and events:
- The Gospel Music Workshop of America
- BET Bobby Jones Gospel
- The Gospel Hour (cable TV) with Dr. Albert J. Lewis, NJ
- West Angeles COGIC, Los Angeles, CA
- Spread a Little Sunshine (TV channel 9) Washington, DC
- Symphony Hall, Newark, NJ with Dr. Lowery of the MLK Jr. Center, Atlanta, GA
- He has worked with Evang. Shirley Caesar, Dorothy Norwood, Twinkle Clark, Rev. Lawrence Roberts, the late Bishop Jeff Banks & Revival Temple Mass Choir, Albertina Walker, Cissy Houston and many others
- Interfaith Television Ministry, NJ
- Special guest at the live recording of Anthony Hill, Durham, NC
As God was allowing Minister Sellars to experience the manifestation of a vision he was shown as a little boy growing up in North Carolina, He opened many doors while singing with Minister Dorsey. The Lord would see fit to call Minister Dorsey home in the spring of 1997, however, Minister Sellars would continue the Messengers for Christ Ministry of
singing and encouraging the broken-hearted, downtrodden and those in need. Exhibiting a unique 'spirit of praise" as he ministers to others through song, Tracy is known throughout the country for his courageous smile, persistence, positive energy and tremendous faith in God. His smile can brighten anyone's day.
To his credit he has a repertoire of over 100 songs yet to be recorded and released as many renowned artists constantly request his songs and song writing abilities for their very own projects. As he has been led and has chosen to record his own solo project in 1997 in hopes of a ooo release, he did write a song (I Sing Because I Am Happy) for Donald Malloy's latest release as John P. Kee (Verity Records) shares in the lead vocals.
Dorothy Norwood can be heard singing Grace & Mercy (written by Kenny~ and featured on the Messengers for Christ second live recording
entitled 'Mind Your Own Business"), on her latest release entitled "Hattie B's Daughter" in which James Moore, and Willie Neal Johnson accompany Evangelist Norwood on the lead vocals. Tracy is currently writing or being solicited to write for Anthony Hill (lntersound), Savannah Mass, Houston Mass Choir and the GMWA National Choir.
Bearing all this in mind, many feel that the music ministry of Minister Tracy Alonzo Sellars is no doubt New York's, New Jersey's, and North Carolina's best-kept secret. The gospel music industry and the many souls that it targets has yet to realize the unique talents of this remarkable young man. First, a child of God, a singer/performer, song writer, and minister of the gospel, Tracy has yet many hearts to touch as his first solo project spreads wonderful messages of encouragement to a lost and dying world.
