Artist History
The roots of Methodaire date back to Autumn 1999 when a band called Blend comprising of George Watts (lead guitar) and James Lucas (rhythm guitar and lead vocals) met Dan Smee (bass) and Steve Harry (drummer) on a musicians website and at University respectively. Will Vaughan was the last to be recruited on trumpet and keys. Renamed methodaire, the group soon clicked and furiously began writing and recording before playing their first gig in February 2000. Methodaire’s music could best be described a combination of blues, country, punk, 60s rock, funk, French and ska although the band simply refer to it as ‘road music’. Now TV describes them as 'Faith No More meets The Doors in a sleazy bar'! They have since headlined at The Water Rats, The Monarch, Dublin Castle, Hope & Anchor, Fitz and Firkin, The Orange , Half Moon and The Garage and built up a loyal fanbase. In between touring the lads have appeared on Japanese TV programme London Calling where they performed alongside Terrorvision and My Vitriol. Radio wise, they have been supported by Clare Sturgess who played The Goodtime Girl on her XFM unsigned show. Their demo also includes you can see it, a catchy bluesy tune accompanied by a music video. They performed the same track for an internet entertainment channel, Scene One which is being used as the trailer advert! Two of their highlights of 2001 was, firstly, performing their new track, The Times which is heavily ska influenced, at the Mean Fiddler for Now TV and Mean Fiddler websites. And secondly, the icing on the cake was playing at Brixton Academy alongside Paul Weller, Ocean Colour Scene and Faithless. 2002 will prove to be an exciting year for Methodaire. In January, they will be at the Roundhouse studio recording their first EP for Commune Records and then basically working their asses off playing both acoustic and electric gigs and festivals around the country and Europe.
