Artist History
Joey Ty was a NYC Hip Hop DJ that spun in all of Manhattans’ Lower East Side clubs. He was offered the opportunity to promote an Open Mic at a venue called Baby Jupiter. He asked that Big Zoo (Solid Ground) & i2i (Pro, Vice) come host the show. Everyone knew each other from all the hot spots downtown, so there was no question as to whether or not they would do it.
Unfortunately Joey was diagnosed with cancer before the Open Mic got started. He had to move out of town for therapy and so i2i and Solid Ground had to do the party without him.
They employed DJ Scram Jones to fill Joey’s slot and the End Of The Weak at Baby Jupiter became and over night success. With its smoke filled, BYOB underground appeal, everyone in the NYC underground became instantly draw to this Open Mic. Aspiring lyricist and Professionals Emcee’s alike came to through the Doors of Jupiter to hone their performance skills
Since Jupiter’s days, the E.O.W. has moved on to a bigger and better venue and has since released a compilation album featuring the sharpest performers from the Open Mic. They now occupy Pyramid every Sunday night, giving an array of international Hip-Hop enthusiasts a venue where they can be exposed to the rawest talent in the world. EOW has seen performers from as far away as Russia on its stage. Believe it when we say, Joey’s Open Mic has turned into a shining star in the deep abyss of Underground Hip-Hop.
RIP JOEY TY.
