It’s that no-compromise philosophy that has this group on the threshold of a virtually uncultivated realm in hip-hop music. From the dirt roads of Indiana hail a trio that is powerful enough to captivate the music industry and turn it upside down. Catchy hooks and melodious rhyme patterns are the elements, and surprisingly provocative positivity is the vibe. In an age of booty rhyming, ‘bling-blingin’, and foul language, DaFilled keeps it true to its roots of upper echelon good music. They have been spreading this style all over the country with a special concentration in the Midwest. Their appearances include: Music To Die 4 Tour 2002, Indiana Black Expo, Indiana State Fair, numerous Juvenile Correctional Facilities, and many, many community events. Each member has his own flavor to bring to this mix of upbeat lyrical superiority. -Braille (Mista Witness) is the eldest of the group and brings a lot of the lyrical weight. He sharpened his raps while making his living by means of narcotic distribution. His lyrics mostly contained boisterous claims to riches, power, and girls. These lifestyles lead him to get caught up in the legal system. With a vow to change his ways in the late 90’s, he was spared a long sentence in prison. From then on his life or rhymes have never been the same. Now his lyrics often speak on such issues as fidelity and sobriety. His background of hustling has allowed him to bring comfort to those still in the streets with his message of, “I was you…” He keeps it real with his own mixture of block knowledge and life’s wisdom. -iLL’s life story is one of refreshing resilience. He grew up in Beechwood, a public housing community in Indianapolis, with his mother and stepfather. The projects were hard on his family. While his mother was struggling with drug addiction, his stepfather worked hard to keep the family from going under financially. With things going crazy at home, he clung to the church at an early age. During this time he learned that preaching to his family would never be as effective as living a positive life in front of them. He is quoted as saying, “Most people dream about making music that will change people’s lives…we [DaFilled] just decided to do something about it.” Since then he has been a rapper and keynote speaker in many community events. -Countryboy albertpaul is mostly responsible for the group’s image. With a bachelor’s degree from Heron School of Art, his artistic background gave him an unusual outlook on life. He surely adds a whole new dimension, not only to DaFilled but also to the rap game in general. His upbeat attitude and passionate phrases are more than intriguing; they’re down right addictive. “If you from Indiana, then you Country!” This statement is taken from a brotha who constantly bombards the normalcy of hip-hop with his eclectic country flavor. Artist History DaFilled came out of a Hip-Hop click named Homeless. Do to differences in focus, the group split to concentrate on their own endeavors. Contryboy-Albert Paul continued to connect with ILL Logikal & Mista Witness; encouraging them to continue writing and seeking God’s purpose in their Rap Ministry. Not long after, they realized that they contained the same focus, dream, and commitment, the three decided to form another group. Some of the collective highlights of DaFilled are:Bobby Jones GospelQuest 2002,The 2002 Holy Hip-Hop Awards, CrewVention in Florida; StarQuest, Indiana Black Expo talent showcase, & the Stable, a Christian club in Detroit. They have shared venues with such well-known gospel music personalities as Nuwine, Mary Mary, Gospel Gangstaz, and Lamar Campbell; and have opened for the likes of Cross Movement and Rodnie Bryant. Though they come from different backgrounds, they possess the same Spirit. That’s why these brother’s are firm examples of how it should be, letting the ’hood see that DaFilled is real: Mista Witness, Albert Paul and ILL.
