Artist History
Following a special preview gig, with Vanessa, to a packed house at Club UK in late 2001, Canopy are preparing to hit the stage again soon with a bunch of new songs and a dynamic new vocalist, Sheridan.
Under the name 'Atonic', songwriters Ben and Erik recorded a self-titled EP in 1996 with Josh Abrahams. Writing in Rolling Stone, Richard Kingsmill said Atonic will "bliss you out". They received airplay on Triple J's Oz Music Show with their first EP as Canopy in 1998. The recording featured the sweet vocals of Vanessa Toholka and the freakish production talents of Sebatron* (known for his work with The Avalanches), who both also appear on the Remix the World EP. |

Press Reviews
Rockus Online Magazine - Review by Greg Sanders, Dec 2001
Canopy are a semi-electronic act who incorporate guitars, keys and sweet vocals to produce a very interesting breed of electro-pop. 'Remix the World' is their second EP, and has been produced by Sebatron of [The] Avalanches fame. The sounds on the record are all very bright with Vanessa Toholka's vocals sounding very fine indeed.
There are no real highlights as all of the songs are of the same high quality, but the title track is the sort of song which will get lots of radio airplay over the summer due to its clever hook and uplifting feel. The sound is hard to define, but they're almost a less indie, more electronic version of Sydney's Lino and, judging by the quality of this release, are a band we will be hearing lots more of in the future.
Rockus Rating: 7.5/10
Oz Music Project - Review by Jaz, Nov 2001
An interesting release this one. Canopy strives to produce a relatively vocal-orientated electronic pop with perhaps a smidgen of a mainstream orientation. The title track comes across almost a club style anthem...undoubtedly quite catchy. Overall the band is ambitious in trying to cover a very large umbrella of sounds and styles. Not a bad second effort.
