Artist History
Born in Toronto, Canada, John Kelly Gannett grew up out of the musical heritage of his grandmother, a pop singer in Hollywood, California during the 1950's. John's early love of music led him to take up the piano at age 9. But it was the guitar that would later become the real passion of his life. During high school, John underwent formal training in music theory, arranging and composition. By the time John reached age 16, he already began composing classical music for the guitar. This later led him to receive an outstanding musical achievement award at age 17. Later John studied songwriting under Brian Deorksen, renowned gospel songwriter. It was then that he discovered his love for writing songs. Since then, he has attended numerous workshops around the world with many renowned songwriters such as Gary Burr, Janis Ian and Jimmy Webb to hone his craft of commercial songwriting.
In the past, John has enjoyed performing for the British Columbia Songwriters Association at their weekly showcases in Vancouver, Canada. John has also performed many times in Nashville, TN, at various venues, including the legendary Bluebird Café and Wildhorse Saloon. Most recently, John performed an artist showcase this past September in Calgary, Alberta, for the Canadian Country Music Association (CCMA). It was there that he created a "buzz" with many of the music industy folks there in attendance.
During the past few years, John has enjoyed working as a session singer for several songwriter demo projects. He most recently recorded his first artist EP with veteran Canadian record producer John Jamieson (Formerly worked with Eileen "Shania" Twain). |
