Artist description
SOULFIRE is a six piece groove-based rock and roll band rooted in Stratford, CT.
The band's dancy and bluesy brand of rock is the result of an ecclectic
collection of personality and musical influences.
A Brief History: Brothers Tony (Boney Toney) and Chris Fasanella (Enzofaz)
decided to join forces a couple of years ago and start a band called
Velvet Roof - the name came from a Buffalo Tom song. The original lineup,
besides Tony on the backbeat and Chris on his six-string, included
Howie Turner on vocals and Joe Madero on bass. Joe then introduced
guitar prodigy Chris Ferrando (Turtle) into the group and soon
began recording various demos and playing coffee houses and other
small venues. After Joe left the band for personal reasons,
Turtle invited his buddy from a local side project he'd been
jamming with to play the low end. John Whaley joined the
band in the summer of 1999 and Velvet Roof's final lineup
was almost complete. Within a year, Velvet Roof began
playing bigger and better venues, including New Haven's
famous Toad's Place, opening for local favorites like
Riders on the Storm and Physical Graffiti. Finally, in
the spring of 2000, at a gig at New Haven's now
deceased Tune Inn, the band recruited guitarist/songwriter
Don Massie from the opening act Bender, thus
completing the Velvet Roof lineup.
The move changed the sound of the band dramatically
allowing Chris Fasanella to make the switch to keyboards
and leaving limitless possibilites in the songwriting
arena. The bands first show back with the new line up
was at Toads Place in front of national act Black 47
in the fall of 2000. The show was a huge success--the
band's first broadcast on Digital Club Network--but
conflicting schedules and conflicting interests led
to the dissolution of Velvet Roof soon after this
inspiring gig. By fate's gracious hand, Enzofaz ran
into old friend singer/songwriter B. Hungerford in
the spring of 2001 and the two began to collaborate
on some brand spanking new material. Their union
led to the eventual rebirth of music called SOULFIRE.
The present line up is B. Hungerford on vocals and
songwriting soul, Chris Fasanella on keys and all
around vibe, Chris Ferrando providing guitar
virtuosity and finesse, Don Massie on guitar and
writing some kick ass jams, John Whaley on the
low end and providing endless amounts of bud,
and Tony Fasanella on his pounding percussive hand.
