Artist History
Born in Twin Peaks and raised in Chicago, David Orris is the son of an ordained minister. By the age of four, he was singing and playing piano competitively. David went on to win a vocal scholarship to the Wheaton Conservatory where he studied classical voice, piano and composition. During his studies, David ventured outside the traditional curriculum and delved into experimental explorations of sound as well as a long suppressed attraction to Eastern styles of meditation and other spiritual practices and philosophies. It was also during his Conservatory years that he became more deeply infatuated with sonically unique rock, particularly Peter Gabriel, Radiohead, Tori Amos and U2. David left the Conservatory and moved to New York City where he received a German based record deal before the label folded. Now in Los Angeles, David continues his sonic and spiritual exploration where he and his band regularly play to packed clubs. His music is being played on college and public radio throughout the country as well as internationally. David's music has also recently been featured in various television shows including the hit series "Felicity" and is also a musical centerpiece of the upcoming feature film "Sheer Bliss," slated for release in Spring of 2003. |

Press Reviews
"Orris creates dramatic serenades of love and pain... His dense piano based melodies seem highly influenced Radiohead... intriguing and wholly unique. There is a sweetness in songs like the slow, melodic 'Please' and the hook laden 'Polite.' David Orris and his band are polished in all the right places. His songs are filled with catchy hooks and sensitive lyrics." - Scott Dudelson, lamusicscene.com (8/02) "...although his songs have been used on soundtracks for TV and film ("Felicity," "Sheer Bliss"), Orris writes music interesting enough to be stand-alone, not merely accompaniment... Orris' songs are thoughtful, ballad-y pop, but he kicks up the intensity a notch" - NoHo LA Magazine (8/02) |
