Artist History
SEPT 2001 Choonik emerged from former project 'Pineapple Fuck'. The idea came from a song known now as 'Debut' before founder Rob Shields ever knew Merzbow or the Japanese noise scene. 'Debut', recorded during Pineapple Fuck sessions, involved creating terrifying noise using samples from movies/computer games to great effect.
OCT 2001 - JAN 2002 First official Choonik song recorded; Blackball. Further recording of 'Jaw Clikk', 'Coma' and others followed. Four songs from these recordings became Choonik's debut album The Pink Mafia. Previously called Infantiphagia, this album featured 2 songs now permanently deleted. The Pink Mafia is an album based on vocals and guitars
NOV 2001 'Non Existent' recorded in a classroom of Ousedale School during a Kids on Fire practice session. This is the only known live 'gig' by Choonik.
APR - JUN 2002 Bobby Bubble vs. The Termites recorded, a synth/vocal based album.
JUL 2002 Nerve Damage Sessions recorded, the first 'digital' recording by Choonik on the PC, and opens doors for digital recording and editing. Several previous songs were then remastered.
AUG - NOV 2002 Several ideas for the third album came and went, one an ambient project as well as consideration to follow up with a sequal to Nerve Damage with several attempts at each recorded. This is a Reality Check DELETEDELETE!!! later became the result of all the concepts combined.
NOV 2002 Nerve Damage e.p. now available on mp3.com with new artwork and a new track ['Void Plasma Tunnel'] recorded in October. |
