Artist description SYNTAXERROR-1. Experimental Classical Music.Using note-generating algorithms, Syntaxerror-1 is a compilation of experimental classical music composed and performed by new media artist Fatima Lasay. All the pieces are generated from various algorithms including fractals, number theory and logistic maps. Themes were developed in each piece based on fundamental principles in musical composition. There are "standard" classical pieces for piano, violin and flute, and some eastern themes for the koto, Chinese cymbals, taiko drums and sitar. The CD is available through MP3.com. You can also purchase the CD from the artist which includes the musical score and cover art for all 10 tracks.

Artist History Fatima Lasay is an Industrial Design, Fine Arts Graduate of the University of the Philippines. She trained in classical piano, played briefly with a band in college and was keyboardist for Maniac Kiss when she joined the faculty of Fine Arts at the University. Fats hasn't played with the group for two years now, being busy with graduate school, teaching, research and algorithmic music.
