Artist History
Ask Again Later is four guys from different musical backgrounds united
together to form a musical Voltron of sorts.
Red Lion: Raymond Yates -- who writes, sings and strums -- has been and
continues to be a force on the folk scene for the last decade. Raymond's
two solo albums explore the ever-changing landscape of modern
folk and include guest appearances from prominent musicians oft-featured on
Public Radio's A Prairie Home Companion. Herr Yates continues to perform
solo and with other projects in the folk context. "He's like James Taylor,
but with soul and good song-writing ability from the musical and lyrical
standpoints," notes Norm.
Yellow Lion: Matt Ogden kicks the pony's ass with his searing guitar lines,
yet also soothes the savage beast with a tremendously appropriate soft
touch. Matt's keen sense of harmony provides that special something that
sets AAL apart from similar acts. Matt has played in punk, rock, and
hippie-rock bands from NoDak to St. Paul. Ogden-san currently plays drum in
a hippie-rock band not affiliated with this project. "He's like Jerry
Garcia, but without a beard and a gut and a plot in the cemetery" Norm
observes.
Green Lion: Norm Long was a fixture of the Macalester College music and
theater scene during the mid-to-late nineties, acting, singing and drumming
all over the place while pursuing an economics degree. Some acts you may
have seen Norm with include: Dr. Wells, Jadedone, Marmaduke, Orbit 3 and the
Macalester College Gospel Choir. Mssr. Long whittles away the time in his
home-based electronic music studio. "I'm like Moby, but with the hair and
without the big contract," avers Norm.
Blue Lion: Eric Ebbesen brings that booming bass sound to the quartet
(picklessly, thank you). Eric has played in punk/alt acts since early in
high school and won't stop a-rockin' till the cops come a-knockin'. Some
acts you may have seen Eric with include: Thin Red Line, Jadedone,
Marmaduke, Orbit 3 and the Macalester College Gospel Choir. Gospodin
Ebbesen plays the guitar and cds at his home in South Minneapolis in his
free time. "He's like Les Claypool, but not quite as good nor quite as
mentally insane.
How did Ask Again Later come to be? Norm and Eric have been playing
together for six years. Norm and Ray have known each other for six years.
Norm asked Ray to jam and it worked, but needed something extra. Matt works
and hangs with Eric's sister's fiancé, Scott. Norm and Eric asked Scott if
he knew someone who wanted to jam. Scott said he did and that person's name
was Matt. Norm and Eric asked Matt to jam with them and Ray and it worked.
