Artist description
Rainey and Rosenthal create a duet music which is at once transparent and richly developed. Their sound draws upon the great improvisers from
traditions as far flung a jazz, modern classical and the asian subcontinent.
"From the first moments, the listener knows that he or she has wandered into a very special universe. There's a solemn longing to Rainey's playing that makes it akin to the song of a nearly extinct species. He offers up what seems to be nothing less than a microtonal hymn to mortality.... His sound is pure and beautiful, even when he's delivering multiphonics or streams of harmonics....." Walter Horn, Cadence
"Rosenthal's childlike infatuation with the sounds of the drum kit and his effervescent energy tug and prod the music every which way." - Ed Hazell, Boston Pheonix |
