These critics are not alone in notice that Derrick is a bright seasoned talent on the Dallas Urban Music scene.Derrick Dunlap, formerly the lead vocalist and producer for the local trio,"Touch." Derrick has emerged as a solo singer/songwriter. In 1998 he released his solo/debut "DL volume1," and it's quickly become popular onthe Mp3 and college station format. "Lazy Crazy and Never Loved," has reached top 20 on Mp3 charts.Derrick has performed extensively across the state of Texas playing in some of the finest venues Texas has to offer: Fairmount Hotel, Strange World, Loews Anatole, Sheraton, Richardson Civic Center, and many more...Having grown up in Dallas Tx, Derrick reflects a humbling charm but also has urban influences in his writing. Derrick has written and produced for several local acts, and his music has been played and used by one of the local Radio DJ personality "DJ Scorpio." In addition to being a musician, he has been an artist, night auditor, pc tech support, engineer, producer, and a volunteer at a local hospital. These experiences have led Derrick tobe a songwriter who is direct and self-assured, yet honest and sensitive. His songs speak of love, relationships and life, songs that touch on a political and deeply spirtual issues.Derrick currently lives in Dallas, Texas and will be recording as much as he possibly cans, in hopes of polishing and developing his sound. |

Derrick began his musical voyage when he was at the tender age of 13, not fully understanding why he was so intensely drawn to music he joins the Jr. High School Choir at "Vivian Field" located in small suburban city of Dallas called "Farmers Branch".As Derrick enters into high school he decides to tryout for RLTurners elite Acapella Choir, there Derrick would learn much more then the fundamentals of music, and singing. Over the next four years he dives face forward into his artwhich he so greatly love. Voice lessons, piano lessons, sight reading, talent shows, battle of the bands, you name it he was involved.In 1991 Derrick meets Al. Gibbs of Alpha Omega Entertainment, by speed dialing numbers listed under "Entertainment" in the Yellow Pages.By meeting Al. this gives Derrick more opportunityto perform. After performing w/ Alpha Omega for 2yrs. Derrick decides to try his hand in recordingdemos and trying to shop them. That's when he metClark Findley of "Phattmann Communications". Through Clark begin his schooling of Midi Recording. Recording demo after demo learing how to produce and develop his own sound. Today Derrick has a number of projects that he is recording, composing, and producing. His first album set for release in late spring early summer of 1999. Followed by an easy listening jazz project he is working on with Clark Findley. |
