Artist description
David Conley is a multi-style composer, multi instrumentalist performer who composes and performs in many different styles and genres of music. His music blends style and genre to create new hybrids, a practice he calls “expansionism”. David Conley’s official mp3.com page is the very definition of eclecticism. Here you can find everything from film score, country, rock, jazz, progessive rock , electronic, experimental, classical, and more.
David explains “As a film composer, I tend to compose in multiple styles, which is great because I love music regardless of style or genre. I love Classical, Pop, Rock, Country, Techno, World music- the list is endless! Why limit myself to one style? Thus my expression "expansionist composer", a term I created to define my penchant for cross genre composition. There is alot that can be taken from one style to another. When left to my own purely artist motivations (without the influence of a client or director) one thing about my music that seems to remain constant is my desire to constantly try and push the envelope of technique, meter, harmony, texture and melody, while still satisfying musically and remaining accessible. My Music can range from having a zen-like simplicity to a more complicated and demanding architecture. It can also range from some guy banging on a trash can lid and another playing harmonica, to full orchestral suites, to a rock band,..Where do I fit in?? The GREAT thing about MP3.com is that I can be featured as an artist working in multiple categories, where-as with a label I would be stuck with one genre. Hence my use of the term "Expansionist" to help encapsulate my practice of working in so many different styles, categories and genres”.
David is also an accomplished album producer and film composer. For more information on his films please visit www.imdb.com. |
