Artist History
Witches of Weir has been in existence since September, 1996. That's when two eccentric young chaps from Des Moines, Iowa started experimenting with a 4-track, and other things.
Pozart (a.k.a. Darius Hernandez) and Wompazant (a.k.a. Adam Clark) started brewing strange musical concoctions, with no plans to show the material to anyone. Hence, they did absolutely whatever they wanted.
An insatiable desire for catchiness and uniqueness yielded a never-before-heard sound...weird and sincerely hilarious enough to get attention, yet catchy enough to hold it. Before Witches of Weir, no one had ever come up with music so strangely infectious. Homemade dubs began circulating around Des Moines, generating a bombardment of positive feedback, as well as a slew of requests for copies...but the young chaps did not take action just yet.
When the time was right, in October, 1999, Witches of Wier crept into the Midwest music scene with a full-length CD and a back-up band. The Witches of Weir live show quickly developed into a high-energy bombardment of theatrical hilarity impossible to ignore. Before long, the band built up a significant fan base, and began selling and distributing multiple copies of the Pozart-Wompazant recordings, now packaged as a 12-song album called "Whammy!"
Listening to the CD and watching the live show are two totally different experiences. The recordings are twisted and manipulated in a new and creative way never heard before. The off-the-wall production defies description...peaking the listener's curiosity to a point where most would wonder how the songs could be performed live.
The live band is off-the-wall in a different way. Toy-store looks, along with speed-injected, spastic antics, make for a captivating show that sets Witches of Weir apart from any other group. Fans buying CDs after seeing the show are in for a pleasant surprise. This is a new approach to writing, recording, and performing which demonstrates a much-needed return to innovation, and crushes the popular notion that everything's been done already.
Are you frustrated with today's music world...plagued by re-hashed standards and sounds we've all heard before? Well, never fear! Witches of Weir is here! |
