Artist History
After the final Concrete Witchdoctors gig at CBGB on October 16, 1986, two former Witchdoctors continued on as Razor Chamber. Dark crooning vocalist Frank Nestola (also ex-The Oppressed/Outcry/The Cave) and inventive goth-metal guitarist Michael Grimes' new band was in a similar vein as their prior band, albeit less eclectic, mixing dark alternative rock with noise-punk squalls. Razor Chamber initially featured the former rhythm section for legendary punk act The Undead (Chris Natz on bass and Patrick Blanck on drums), but they didn't stick. After several more months of rehearsal with replacement bassist Dave and drummer Scott(a time period which also saw Nestola and Grime record with bizarre side projects Goatblood Sacrifice and Pump), Razor Chamber ceased to be. Grimes played for awhile with future Springhouse/Blue Man Group bassist Larry Heinemann. In late 1987, Grimes switched to bass to play in notorious NY noise-rock band God. Following God's demise in summer 1988, Grimes hooked up with vocalist Robert Rowan Conroy (ex-Burning Rome/The Children's Zoo) to form 99 Stellavista. The latter band eventually morphed into Sisterboy (who released an eponymous CD in 1996). Grimes currently performs in Zenen. Chris Natz also played in The Skabs, Virus, Blacksnakes, and Cop Shoot Cop. Patrick Blanck also played in Blacksnakes (he sadly died in a diving accident in the Dominican Republic in 2001). No one knows what happened to Dave and Scott. |
