Artist History
Only in his mid-twenties, singer/songwriter Matt Marka is already a music veteran. Born and raised in Mankato, Minnesota, Matt formed his first band, Naked Bob, while still in high school. Over a span of six years, Matt and Naked Bob worried less about image and more about fostering their own unique sound. Naked Bob released three albums, and with each release, both the band's and Matt's talent grew exponentially. By the time Naked Bob broke up in 1998, they had transformed from a quiet, acoustic trio into one of southern Minnesota's most respected underground rock acts.
During his Naked Bob years, Matt also explored an edgier, punk rock sound with the band Dog Day. During its short but exciting existence, Dog Day released one EP and toured North America.
In 1998, Matt was ready to go it alone. His first solo project, released under the name Brittle, was entitled How Much Has Changed.
Matt followed How Much Has Changed with the 1999 release One Less Ruth. Both of these albums are at times wildly energetic and hauntingly beautiful. Matt's latest project is his third and possibly finest solo release. Repeat Pete Repete showcases the talents of a singer/songwriter not content to rest on his laurels.
Matt has toured extensively, opening for acts as diverse as the Violent Femmes, the Offspring, Jawbreaker, and Edith Frost. Matt currently lives in Minneapolis.
