Artist History
Randy Granger's history is like so many other musicians in that he could play any instrument, imitate any singer and hear sublties in songs no one else could. He started by playing drums then guitar and formed bands throughout high school and then in college. After the typical band anecdotes like the bass player being committed to a mental hospital and drummers with wonderlust, Granger decided he could no longer be heard above the competing instruments and returned to the guitar/vocal combo in which he was so much at home. Joing ASCAP and moving to L.A. Granger learned the music business has little to do with talent and was more like throwing tacks into a twister and hoping one will hit the right mark. Beaten down by rejection he moved back to New Mexico. There he made a name for himself and eventually won the 2001 New Mexico Music Industry Award for Best Folk Song. Though he received favorable press and was a regular in-studio guest at NPR and College stations, the lack of venues and trials of submitting demos can take their toll. He produced his own CD, Apostasy on his and a college friend's Label, Redondo Records. |
