Artist description
Traditional country . . . with an edge. Kim Clark takes us back to a time
when the sounds of guitars, mandolins and fiddles emanated from
porches and parlors, and voices joined in harmony to carry the favorite
tunes of the day. It was a time when people bought sheet music and
gave it life through their own instruments and voices. Music brought
people closer. Families sang together, and played their instruments as
recreation in the evenings. Music was live, and filled our homes with
warmth and joy. Kim's debut album, Just Gettin' Started, from
kimclarkmusic and Vision Productions, recreates the vitality of
down-home country music. Both singer and songwriter, Kim's music
displays the profound influence of artists like Hank Williams and Patsy
Cline. Kim was born in northwest Indiana, but her musical roots run
deep into Kentucky. Both her parents were born and raised in the
Bluegrass state, where her dad grew up picking and singing in the style
made famous by Marty Robbins. The need to feed his family took the
elder Clark, and many other Kentuckians, to the steel mills of Indiana.
They brought with them their traditions, their customs, and their music.
Kim grew up singing and playing instruments with her family, and their
friends, who met regularly to perform, or just to "jam." When a band
member couldn't attend a session, Kim filled in, playing piano, guitar or
drums. From an early age, she was a band favorite for the richness and
strength of her voice. Her style comes from those early influences, and
was gently shaped by others, like Reba McEntire, Loretta Lynn,
Tammy Wynette, Barbara Mandrell, Pam Tillis, Willie Nelson, and of
course, the King, Elvis Presley. Kim has also lived in Kentucky, South
Carolina and New York. She now makes Nashville her home. Before
her arrival in Nashville, Kim sang lead vocals in New York's regionally
popular group, Kim Clark and High Sierra. With High Sierra, she
recorded You're the One at Manhattan's Quad Studios, and Dave
Gibson's tune, You Made It Look Easy. Three other songs, Devil in
Disguise, Easier Said Than Done, and I Believe In The Hand received
significant airplay in the UK during the latter part of 1998. With High
Sierra, Kim has opened for Tammy Wynette, Waylon Jennings, Pam
Tillis, Asleep At The Wheel, Pirates of the Mississippi, Jessie Hunter,
and the Gibson Miller Band. Kim's new album, Just Gettin' Started
features a stunning collection of original tunes that are sure to have
country music fans everywhere singing alon |
