Press Reviews
rockpaperscissors, 3/2/2002:
faatherton is like a marble: perfectly round with colorful insides and the opportunity to roll anywhere. most of the tracks on this five-song set are the epitome and crying soul of a potential love lost. the climactic emotion belted out in WISHING I WERE YOU is something most of us have felt but never expressed in quite an everlasting way. a band has done something right when the listener leaves with goose bumps. the more playful weezer-esque tones of BYE BYE BROOKE play an important role in the feel of the album. one might think that a yearning for love and understanding portrayed in each song would get old, but it does not. each track has a distinctly different yet somehow similar feel that renders the listener captive. i was so intrigued while listening to FAILSAFE that i had to catch myself and say, "wait a second. i go to school with these guys?" what it all comes down to is this: there is a definite appeal to the crude, up close feeling of a live show that we all know, but there is nothing crude about this album. this is faatherton at its best, refined and polished. the most important thing, though: THE RAW EMOTION IS STILL THERE. tyler mcnally, RPS zine |
