Artist History
He has been a feature at the Florida Folk Festival for 18 years and had his own TV show "Songs of the Southwest with Charley Groth". His song "Florida Moon" is the theme for the television showings of the Florida Legislature.
While still in school, Charley began appearing on radio shows and later learned the art of clowning from the original "Bozo the Clown" and took up circus style performing, acted and did magic touring the mid-west to Califorina. He has been a agent/manager for numerous bands and groups but he started playing music professionally as a teenager and has never given it up. Charley does many kinds of music, folk, modern folk, old-time and some modern country music, western swing, blues, traditional jazz, all of which are included in his shows. Charley's own songs are written in several of these musical styles. Switching instruments often as he works, singing, telling stories, Charley obviously enjoys what he does. Charley Groth has appeared on bills with Merle Travis, Jimmy Driftwood, Leslie Keith, Patsy Montana and many others both famous and lesser-known. Charley has done radio programs on various stations and many television shows. He has written articles on subjects related to folk and old time music published in national magazines.
"Music brings me great happiness and satifaction," says Charley. "I hope by sharing my music with others, I can share those good feelings as well." |
