Artist History
Colorado is about to be put back on the map as the hotbed for incredible new music.
Accidental Superhero has emerged from their basement studio in Colorado Springs armed
with an album to be reckoned with.
A.S. formed in 1995. Strong songwriting and an ear for modern appeal helped inspire
their pop rock sound. By 1996, the band had quickly progressed, creating a two hour
original show, and amassing thousands of Colorado fans. In 1997, A.S. continued to
gain momentum, playing at popular venues all over the Rocky Mountain region.
In early 1998, after a few recordings at area studios, Accidental Superhero sought to
capture their evolutionary sound in a project that represented the full scope of their
musical sensibilities. With this in mind, the band built an independent studio, and began
to record their debut album. Nine months later, their first CD Everyman was released.
A.S. started a four month tour that took them across the United States where they
headlined at the Idaho State Pavilion for an audience of 2,500, and performed at the
Whisky A Go-Go and the House of Blues in LA. Their mailing list swelled to thousands of
names as they sold 10,000 copies of Everyman.
Throughout 1999 and 2000, A.S. continued to release songs independently. Their hit
single, "Take My Hand" earned national airplay on top-40 commercial radio. In early
2000, two songs from Everyman were used in the full-length movie trailer and preview
for "All The Pretty Horses", now available in the Special Features area of the DVD.
In 2001, with a desire for an edgier style of production, the band set out in a new
direction. A.S. redefined their songwriting, and crafted modern-sounding cuts
implementing loops and samples. The foursome brought a fresh rawness and intensity
to the table - vital to the fulfillment of their new vision. After several months
in the studio creating an original sound based on hip-hop grooves and soaring melodies,
that vision has come to life.
Accidental Superhero is putting the finishing touches on their second album, to be
released in late 2002. Pre-release songs are getting rave reviews and an immense
number of internet downloads. MP3.com reported over a quarter of a million listens
in a period of 3 months in the summer of 2002, putting A.S. at #7 on the Billboard.com
download charts, and #2 on the MP3.com Pop and Rock charts. During the same time,
the band played numerous sold-out shows, opening for American HiFi, Sammy Hagar,
Audiovent, and The Calling.
In August 2002, A.S. toured to New York City to play at the famous CBGB's and the BB
King Blues Club, earning a strong review in the NY Post. September and October brought
a tidal wave of interviews and magazine reviews, as A.S. headlined shows at the Gothic
Theatre in Denver and the Fox Theatre in Boulder. They are currently in the top 10
(out of 1000+ artists) in the in the CMJ/Coca-Cola New Music Award Competition, and
maintained the #1 spot (out of 140 Colorado artists) at the Post News Battle of the
Bands for 5 straight days. A.S. will be touring to both New York and LA in November.
In 2003, Microsoft if featuring 4 songs from Accidental Superhero on the new "Project
Gotham II" XBOX game, expected to sell 2 million units. A.S. also became a top 10
artist on Buzzplay.net, and was rated in the top 5 unsigned acts on MP3.com.
Look for A.S. tours throughout the U.S. in the Summer of 2003.

Press Reviews
Mike Po of www.getsigned.com:
"...the disc revealed a musical scope far beyond what their influences sound like,
fresh from a blender - This is solid, mid-to-up-tempo pop/rock (the kind I like,
obviously), with extremely well developed song writing."
"Accidental Superhero really does show signs of having such a wide variety of influences -
there is a healthy variety of sounds interspersed throughout the album, although the band
never loses focus of their combined sound."
"To sum it all up, though - This disc might even make its way into my home CD carousel -
How much more of a thumbs-up could I give an act?"
Nathan Levi of www.geekstar.com, CD Reviews:
"The first thing I noticed in listening to 'Everyman' was the superb clarity in the recording."
"Accidental Superhero has a great sound. These guys definitely know how to work the guitars..."
"Jonathan Kuiper's vocals are melodic in parts and sometimes mysterious. His ... great voice
is just what this band needs."
"`Everyman' isn't the kind of CD you put in the player to listen to only one or two good songs,
but for all of them."
Jeremy Simon of The Gazette Telegraph, News of Note:
"...the long-awaited debut CD by Colorado Springs' own Accidental Superhero is finally out.
It's a really sharp mix of instrumental virtuosity and lyrical introspection."
"The 15-song CD, 'Everyman', boasts outstanding production by bassist Sean Mulholland..."
"Each song on "Everyman" is melodically dense, with hummable melody lines and spiritual
but general lyrics that encourage personal interpretation."
"Though the album is aimed at a alternative/rock market, the band seems to lust for the
chance to bust into the progressive jams that commercial radio wouldn't permit."
"Each member of the band is distinctly talented and puts a noticeable imprint on each song..."
Dave Olsen of Colorado's Rover Music Magazine:
"I haven't encountered a band south of Monument Hill that's as poised for success as they
(Accidental Superhero) are."
"For Accidental Superhero the trump card lies in excellent songwriting, both lyrically and musically."
"...Jonathan should have no trouble at all endearing himself to his listeners. His voice is breathy,
soft, and smooth. Yet, what is most striking is his tense restraint. Even at his most subtle
moments he sounds two shakes away from belting it out full on."
"Accidental Superhero has ensured that whatever the audience hears is the best they have to offer.
It's that attention to songwriting that has caused people working in the music industry to stir
their attentions to this Colorado band."
