Artist description
The Awesome Team consists of four regular, normal, but extremely talented young guys who formed a band. Their sound is melodic guitar driven rock with a punk rock edge. This is a real rock band with no gimmicks... no leather pants, no rehearsed, over the top, overused, rock star stage moves.. just great musicians who love what they are doing. At every show The Awesome Teams wins over the audience with their intelligent, catchy songs and their unbridled, infectious enthusiasm onstage.
Joey Dale, lead vox/guitar was 10 years old when his grandfather left him his Gibson Les Paul Jr. guitar. By the age of 14 he was playing in his first band in Kirkland Lake Ontario. Heavily influenced by the Beatles and many of the 1980’s metal bands, Joey began writing and playing songs that were both powerful and catchy. He made the move to Toronto in 2000, the first step in his quest toward world music domination. An extemely charismatic frontman, Joey is always a crowd pleaser with his phenomenal vocals and frenetic onstage personna.
In the neighbouring northern Ontario community of New Liskeard, Geoff Major (guitar/vox) and Dan Beeson (drums/vox) met at the age of 6 and formed their first punk rock band in Grade 6. Dan and Geoff multi-talented musicians, both playing a variety of instruments. Drawing from influences as varied as INSERT, Dan and Geoff are integral parts of the eclectic Awesome Team sound.
Unassuming, quiet, but always hilarious bass player Gabriel Champagne began his musical journey at the age 14, when he first picked up the guitar. He is heavily influenced by the music of his father who is a Jazz guitarist. Gabs honed his chops playing in several punk and ska bands in his hometown of Cornwall, ON. A chance meeting in 2002 brought Gabs together with Joey, Geoff and Dan and then The Awesome Team was born. Says Major, “This band represents the combination of many different sounds, all from the same scene, with the same desperation to rise above the norm.
In the past year, the band has survived a mugging at gunpoint, the theft of 2 guitars and a car theft but they have not been detered from their musical ambitions... instead they have become a rock force to be reckoned within. The Awesome team won both the Spirit of the North competition and the 2002 Toronto Long and McQuade Battle of the Bands. The band was also runner-up in Canada's Best Internet Artist competition at Canadian-Music.com. In February 2003 they were chosen to perform a CMW showcase for music industry reps playing to a packed crowd at Lee’s Palace. In September they were presented with a $1000. prize at the Opera House in Toronto at the 1st Annual Paragon Music competition.
The Awesome Team received a Professional Demo Award from FACTOR in 2003 and they are currently working on an EP with Producer Joao Carvalho (Pilate, By Divine Right)
