Artist description
How in the hell do you describe yourself as an artist?
Well, unlike most people who stroke their own egos, I'm
going to be honest and play the role of producer; my
music flat-out sucks:), but I do have the LEFT-handed thing going for me.
I'm a perfectionist in the worst possible way; I'm never completely satisfied with anything
I write. However, I think this is the one thing that drives
me in writing. I constantly push myself to do things that
I can't do, until they eventually become a part of my 'vocabulary'.
It's a challenge for me to see what kind of chords I can come up
with or see what shapes and positions I can put my hands in and what
the resulting sound is.
I like to write the kind of music that makes people feel something
or makes them think. EMOTION is the largest factor in my writing/playing.
I don't need to say this, but, I'm not the best guitar player in the world,
or even in my home town. However, from a purely musical standpoint, I'm
bordering on genius/insanity[probably more towards insanity:)]. I've got countless hours material in my brain
that needs to be released. My melodic parts are very beautiful; I'm satisfied
with them. But my parts with distortion need a drummer to liven things up and add
diversity to my rhythm patterns. 'Cause let's face it; if you don't have a good
drummer, then all you've got is a shitty band that thinks they're good.
But enough of that. I suck, you suck, we all suck :)

Music Style
My musical style is big, loud guitars interspersed with clean, melodic guitars. I love time changes and odd rhythms; the epitome of math/science rock. Basically, I have a style all my own, using a large amount of 'unusual' chords and voicings, just trying to surprise myself. |

Musical Influences
HUM, Crowbar, Sunny Day Real Estate, Deftones, ATDI, Thursday, Paw, Nemo, Radiohead, Anthrax, pre-Black album Metallica, early Pantera, Slayer, Mogwai, a Perfect Circle, early Tool(i.e. Opiate), Smashing Pumpkins(thru MCIS), Soundgarden, The Who, Failure, Quicksand, and I like a many other bands, but they aren't necessarily influences. |
 |
Similar Artists
Although they weren't as popular as they should have been, HUM is the band I sound most like. Everyone I know has told me they hear their influence on me, and that's extremely flattering. |

Artist History
Well, I've been playing guitar for about seven years.
I've only been in three bands, the shortest lasting three
days and one show, and the longest being summer '98 with one
show. The reason for this, other than moving away for college,
is the fact that I've never met any musicians that challenge me,
whether that be my playing, my mind, or both. I haven't met my
musical 'soulmates', if you will. My hope or dream is that I
will meet the perfect artists, for me, giving me a different
viewpoint for writing, instead of just my own ideas. I don't
want to be the kind of songwriter that has to do everything
by myself and then have everything sound the same.
However, at this point, I just want to get out there and play
music. I love playing live; I can't even describe in words
how wonderful the feeling is. It literally is the best thing
in the world. |
