Artist description
Singer-songwriter Jason Croff recently released his debut album, "3 Minute Singles," but this Native-Detroiter owes more to Stevie Wonder and Motown than the bulk of tired rock commonly dominating the airwaves today. Existing as a solo artist with various guest musicians, Croff has combined jazz and rock into an exciting sound that has been missing for years. Groovy and complex, "3 Minute Singles" remains accessible, and a rewarding listen time after time. Shows with The Nerve, Croff's live band, have proved equally worthwhile. |

Press Reviews
Songwriter Jason Croff is 21 and talented, but above all, determined. While most local bands and artists are playing one or two shows a month, Croff strives for at least five, whether solo acoustic shows or performances with his full band, the Nerve.
"I think that's the best way to promote, to play regularly, so that you're going to be playing for a number of people who have never heard the CD or heard the band before," Croff says.
Croff, from Sterling Heights, began playing music in junior high at the height of the grunge years when bands like Nirvana, whose songs were easy to play, were at the height of their popularity. "The idea at the time was that anybody could play guitar and start a band," he says.
He stuck with music throughout high school and college, playing guitar and some piano. His influences expanded to include jazz and artists like Steely Dan, Ben Folds Five, Queen and Stevie Wonder.
Currently this full-time musician can be found performing in book stores, bars and coffee houses either alone or with his band. He already has one recording under his belt -- a CD EP titled "3 Minute Singles" -- and he plans to record again in the spring.-Melody Baetens, The Detroit News (7/26/02)
