Artist History
I was born in Jackson, Tennessee in 1949. I spent all of my school years here. From an early age I remember sitting with my parents watching Lawrence Welk. This was before the Beatles, Stones, and Animals. It didn’t matter that it wasn’t rock and roll, I just enjoyed the music, not to mention the Lennon Sisters. I also remember waiting for my brother, who was ten years older, to leave the house so I could play his old 45's. He had a good collection of ‘fifties’ songs, mostly by black groups. I remember such songs as “Everybody’s Talkin’ Bout The Jones Girl” and “Yo’ Cash Aint Nutin But Trash”.
Needless to say I was soaking up everything I could listen to. I even had a healthy respect for ‘thirties’ and ‘forties’ music. I loved “The Impressions”, “The Temptations”, “The Supremes”, Joe Tex, Lou Rawls, etc., etc. Probably the first song that showed an alternative direction for me was “Telstar”. Then came the English invasion, if you will. You bet, I was into all of it. Bob Dylan through “The Allman Brothers”, it didn’t matter if it was folk, blues, rock, or soul-I had to have music.
