Artist History
1997, The Janet Theory come together after laying their former childhood band (Foster Child)to rest even though they were on top of the scene.
The band was conceived on the idea to be just as successful creating good music without giving into the cover scene dominating the clubs at the time.
The first release 'Studio Out-Takes'(1998) was a raw aggressivr attack sparking advanced similarities to what is on top today (emo).Every single copy sold out in the first 3 shows.
This proved that Janet Theory's plan had been well executed, playing music that is true to yourself. The ideal was still a slow go as the band had pushed heavy for the next two years to
gain it fan by fan, slowly. This was the long way around as most of the local bands were either trying to the heaviest, prettiest or whatever they felt friends would like.
1999's 'Shoot Me Down CD' was a a bigger development in the bands ability to write strong songs but not yet getting that completely original & identifiable sound they have today.
The bands first big break after years of clubbing came when 94.3fm logged on to the local airwaves.
'She Said' became an instant single for the masses & spinning a binge of opportunities for the band to enjoy once again. Although 'She Said' was not the most creative of the CD's song list, it
showed the Janet Theory's honest style that flirts with humour & strong catchy melodies.
2001 comes full throttle with 'Elastic Friend', a brilliant collection of gems that has all the energy, heaviness & brat attitude
you could ask for, yet keeping the melodic substance that holds them together.
The band re-vamped, replacing Chuck Young with Dave Major on drums & adding Dave Richie to phatten up the sound Jesse Verleye(bass), Mat Drew(vocs) & Shawn Beaulieu
have stapled.
No lack of material has ever shaded the band as they have recently re-introduced a variety of covers that they have
redone Janet Style.Maybe someday in the near future they will get that chance to put out that 'Garage Days' of covers.
But so far the garage is still home for the band, & they could not be happier. Their in it for the music & nothing else.
How could you ask for more? |

Press Reviews

If the secret to good power pop is in the hook, the Janet Theory doesn't just only know the secret, the're spreading the news with just about every track they write & record.
It's a rare talent to hear a band that can not only create original & catchy hooks on a regular basis, but also have the musicianship to carry them off with similar consistency!
Just a few listens to 'DENY ME, SHE SAID, & CENTRE OF GRAVITY' & you'll be humming Janet Theory in the shower, in the car, in the office... and spend the whole time trying to remember how those infectious chords found their way into your head!
Of course, the proof is in the pudding and it's fairly safe to say they've struck those chords with the Rock@94dot3 listeners. They are one of our most requested independent acts, not only from listeners in our central market, but from listeners throughout our Michigan & Ohio coverage area.
If you're a music fan, buy the CD! You won't be sorry. If you're in radio, FEATURE THEM! Give 'em a try. You may be surprised!
