Press Reviews
As something of a sceptic when it comes to religious matters, I will admit to some slight alarm when confronted by Stuart Menzies Farrant's opening gambit that, as a singer/songwriter, he works "mainly in the Christian field". Casting aside my prejudice, I discovered a really delightful demo of sincere songs, rendered in appropriately intimate arrangements. "The River" and "More Than A Prayer" are pick of the bunch, and if the lyrical sentiment of "Revival" is a little too overt for my tastes, then at least it's clear Stuart really means it. There's a distinctive talent at work here and the result is streets ahead of most other - frankly toe-curling - 'Christian rock'. Stuart Menzies Farrant "...doing the will of god..." typically, when someone says that they write music "out of a desire to do the will of god" you will find that people either find a sudden fascination with the floor or that they disappear rather sharpish. this probably has something to do with the images of 70's hippies, sitting around singing "cum by yah" or whatever. thankfully, stuart menzies farrant's songs are something much more sophisticated. like laura ann-collins (another christian singer/songwriter), stuart manages to engage the listener first, and make them think about the meaning behind the songs second, rather than preaching to the listener as some do. based in bradford, west yorkshire, stuart records all his work in his own home studio. he's currently planning to record an album which will initially be made available over the internet, but should those demons/angels of music a&r come along, he's not saying that he wouldn't like to sign a publishing deal with them. you can find several of stuart's excellent tracks online. .
