MR SANDMAN:
A rockin' trio, with a twist of funk 'n jazz spat from the bowels of the farming town York, Western Australia.
COMPRISED OF:
Rhys (21, guitar & vocals), Brendan (20, bass and vocals) & Jack (16, drums).
INFLUENCES:
Mr Sandman's musical influences include older artists & bands like Jimmy Hendrix, The P-Funk All-stars, Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five, The Meters & Herbie Hancock. Newer influences extend to bands like RATM, Helmet, RHCP, Primus, SFK & Incubus.
ACHIEVEMENTS:
1. Statewide 3rd place, 2000 Next Big Thing Competition.
2. 3rd place, 2001 Toodyay Original Music Battle of the Bands.
3. Statewide 2nd place, 2002 Next Big Thing Competition.
4. Rosie Beaton's "Exposed Artist" on Triple J Super Request for 26/5/02.
5. Too Much Information featured on Internet.au magazine's June issue CDrom.
6. Triple J airplay in August/September 2001 for the song Drink-a-thon.
7. Triple J airplay in May/June/July 2002 for the song Too Much Information.
8. Commercial radio airplay (96FM, August 2002).
9. Two months in the Top 10 in both the Alternative and Overall charts on www.mp3.com.au.

"...Fresh from what some may consider the holy grail of Australian alternative music - Triple J airplay, York band Mr Sandman, took to the stage with an air of confidence and blistered through the Middle Eastern influenced 'Too Much Information,' the first song of their five song set. Mr Sandman played extremely well and must have enjoyed playing out live for the first time in almost two months after spending much of the last month working on their soon to be released EP. An extremely energetic performance of crowd favourite 'Jazz Arena Rock' followed and Mr Sandman closed their set soon after with an upbeat and prepollent rendition of 'Untitled.'..." |
