Artist History
Trouble Junction began somewhere on the Finley River in the thick of south Missouri summertime. An Arcadian convergence happened one lazy afternoon amidst tangled fishing line and guitar string; rock and country had a few drinks, banged out some chords, and got to work.
Upon returning to Kansas City, MO., the rock (bass player Calandra Ysquierdo) and the country
(vocalist/rhythm guitar player Abigail Henderson) started rooting around in the seductively seedy KC scene for a drummer and a lead guitar.
The infamous DJ Clem (of Big Jeter, Wyandotte County Lowrider fame), had a listen and offered up his incredible axe handling for the good of the cause.
John Bersuch's drumming has been known to scare the hides off the sonically reserved. His
7-or-so-year musical career includes stints playing with KC bands Trench, Forrest Whitlow & the Crash, Big Jeter, and his ongoing, ever-prolific solo project, Minds Under Cover. He volunteered his chops to fill the slot back in August.
Calandra Ysquierdo (formerly of the Pillows and Fetish Obsession, and presently of the Wyandotte County Lowriders) picked up the bass in 1996 and has been playing out in KC ever since. Dubbed "Queen of the Low-End", Ysquierdo mixes sweet swing with rock goddess attitude turning any woe-begotten lament into a raucous affair.
NYC native Abigail Henderson, whose musical tastes run the gamut from Loretta Lynn to L7, has spent her Kansas City years professing and poetess-ing on the River City's acoustic stages. Picking up the guitar in ‘96 and maintaining that there simply aren't enough "he done me wrong" songs, Henderson's lyrics speak to those who have loved and lost and lost again. Sweetly vengeful and wrenchingly honest, Henderson's throaty vocals range from pixie whispers to Judy Garland-esque explosions.
Trouble Junction mixes its cowpunk and its poetry, its super-pop with its sultry bastard-jazz, all the while weaving classic country nuance through its own spin on rock n' roll. |
