Artist description
Hunter Hawkins became interested in singing and songwriting at a young age and began playing with bands of various style in the late 1980's. Hawkins has written and performed as a vocalist, bassist, and guitarist. Trip’s frontman has also recorded with producer Brian Turner in Atlanta, and was asked to do a showcase for Warner Brothers records in San Diego before his previous group disbanded. Major influences range from Otis Redding to Jimi Hendrix to Rage Against the Machine. His coupling with background singer Jamie Weeks (of Rare Blend) provides him with an undeniable R&B/Hip Hop influence as well.
Rob Szajkowski recently received his M.M. in guitar performance from SDSU, and holds a similar B.A. from UCSD. Rob grew up in Detroit, learning from early influences like Eddy Van Halen, Randy Rhoads and Yngwie Malmsteen. Szajkowski has studied with Celin Romero of the legendary “Los Romeros” quartet, as well as jazz musician and studio musician Carol Kaye (Mission Impossible, The Beach Boys). Mr. Szajkowski has performed extensively in classical, jazz and pop idioms throughout San Diego. His credits include Four Seasons resort, Charger’s Gold Club, Humphrey’s, The Belly Up, KOCT channel 17, ‘Canes, “Anything Goes” (at Poway Performing Arts Center), Grossmont College Guitar Concert Series, and performances with the UCSD jazz ensemble. In addition to performing, Szajkowski operates a private teaching studio in Vista, CA.
Earl Schryer plays fretted and fretless 6-string bass guitars. His background and influences span a wide range of music and bass guitar styles including progressive rock, heavy rock, R&B, and Jazz. Earl blends these styles to create a fresh, unique modern rock bass sound. Born in Maryland, he played in several bands in the D.C., Maryland, Virginia areas, including “Asylum" (before they were signed by Hell Hound Records under the name "Unorthodox"). Schryer Moved to Phoenix, AZ in '87, where he played with "The Hyp-Gnostics" (Desert Beetles CD '93), and "Picasso Trigger", and recorded all the bass tracks on "The Bride" Demo CD (Northwind Recording Studios, Tempe, AZ, '97). Moving to the San Diego area in early 1999, Trip Fontaine is the first project Earl has been involved with in Southern CA. Earl's style on the bass guitar adds a key element to the Trip Fontaine sound.
Drummer Davis S. West, a.k.a. "the bug man" has been playing for Trip Fontaine for the last year. Trip found Davis from a newspaper ad, and the chemistry and matching style were undeniable from the start. His background starts with his parents, both professional musicians of high stature. The two signed and released albums with different major labels during there careers, including Playboy Records, Capital and A&M. “The bug man" was playing pots & pans before he could walk and by age 4 was rocking the house on his first real drum kit, a vintage Rogers. Before his teen years, he had already sat in for country star Willie Nelson at several Houston benefits, and subbed in the Dean Scott show band. Before moving to California, West played in numerous Houston bands, including Blind, The Nighthawks and Tangible Blue. He has also had the pleasure to open shows for King’s X, Garbage, Dishwalla, The Hunger, Filter and Blink 182.
