Press Reviews
Producer, The Asiatic Nomad AKA Kaan Yavuzel, although born in the UK, spent most of his early years in Turkey. His love for hip-hop started from his early childhood days at primary school. Kaan was blown away the first time he heard "Planet Rock" - the shit was hot and since then has never looked back.
The first ever LP that he got was Run DMC's ‘Raising Hell’. The stuff out in Turkey was limited so he didn't really get into the underground stuff till he came to the, now more familiar, shores of England. His first years in this country were troubled - couldn't get used to the people, the weather, the whole atmosphere, away from home, friends. One of the key reasons that got him back on track was his close friend Rodney. By trading tapes and through him Kaan got to know/ hear NWA, P.E., Daddy Kane, KRS and a whole slew of others.
At the age of 18, the duo would buss lyrics over instrumentals and after a while this lead to Kaan’s fascination into the artistry of creating beats. With the wages from his first job he bought himself a DR660 drum machine. Already a talented guitarist and a keyboard player this was the only missing link and so, his set-up was complete.
The Asiatic Nomad started to make tracks using to separate tape decks, recording from one to another to sequence/layer his ideas. The end result would be something very muffled. Although the sound quality of his tracks where off, the ideas were tight and friends would always encourage him to keep up with it.
One friend who took him to the next level was another close friend Winston AKA Dj Double U. In ‘95 they got together, he was an off the hook mc/dj who could rhyme his ass off. They made a few tracks and were convinced to take it to the next stage, but just when things started to move he disappeared off the face of the earth. Disillusioned by this Kaan lost heart, but again the power of hip hop motivated him to carry on with the struggle. As his skills developed so did his need for better equipment. Finally he bought the hip hop producers dream machine, the MPC2000. Since this acquisition there's been no stopping - churning out beat after beat, but what good is a beat without no MC? Initially a lot of mc's were tried and tested but none were dedicated to see any projects through by not turning up for sessions and giving whack excuses.
As a result Kaan has a catalogue of fresh beats and is still creating as each day goes by, a range of instrumentals in a whole cacophony of styles with influences from both the East and the West. …21 gun salute to the producer. The rest is history; it’s all about the future!
