Artist History
Janine Stoll is an active and valued member of Toronto's independent music community who has been performing for several years on many Canadian stages, sharing her raw storytelling and vocal talents with adoring audiences and admiring musicians. Janine has released one full-length album to date, entitled everything you gave me. This album is a solo acoustic project displaying Janine's unmatched talent to combine vivid stories, enrapturing melodies, and raw emotion into "perfect" songs.
Music fans and musicians in Toronto and surrounding areas have come to recognize the versatile golden voice of Janine Stoll as among the best in music. With her ability to sing folk, funk, punk, jazz, rock, country, pop, and gospel styles with unflinching authenticity, Janine is the envy of many vocalists. Her voice is its own powerful entity that cannot truly be likened to any other. But to appease those among you who cannot function without the requisite comparisons, her voice is at times reminiscent of Alanis Morissette and Sarah Harmer. Those who check out Janine's live performance will experience a fun and edgy show laced with wit, charm, charisma, sincerity, and genuine, unadorned talent.
In the years that she has been performing live, Janine has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with many talented acts, including Andy Stochansky, Martina Sorbera, Ali Eisner, Lori Cullen, and Rob Lamothe. She has also collaborated with acclaimed talents such as Erin Smith, Ember Swift, and Melissa McClelland.
Presently Janine is joined on stage with various stellar musicians who are bringing her music to new funky, exploratory realms. Ilios Steryannis on drums, Cindy Fairbank on piano, and Clinton Ryder on bass make up this quartet of crazy players who turn every live performance into a party.
This talented singer/songwriter's work ethic and passion for music is evident in the fact that she has spent the past two years running, designing, and site-managing IndieVoice.com, Toronto's Online Independent Music Resource, along with a small group of independent music enthusiasts. This resource helps independent musicians gain end-to-end information about how to eke it out as an indie artist and provides valuable information and resources for music fans. The site also acts as an open forum for anyone who wants to have an independent voice. IndieVoice.com will soon be making the leap from a local Toronto stage to a global one, which will be of great benefit to musicians world wide.
The time has come for world domination. Following in the footsteps of other like-minded and equally talented Toronto artists such as Ember Swift and Erin Smith, Janine Stoll will soon be an in-demand commodity of the capitalist money-swillers. Be one of the ones to say, "I knew her when...."

Press Reviews
December 2001
"Stunning and honest - what a wonderful acoustic album (everything you gave me). This CD is spellbinding! Janine Stoll casts tales of longing, summer joy, urban life, country warmth and everything in between with honesty and lyrical prowess. Her voice is full of warmth and depth, but full of attitude and versatility - it alternately scathes and soothes. Highly recommended."

"Stoll uses her roots in r&b, gospel, punk, funk, folk and pop to add depth to her gutsy vocal delivery and catchy melodic writing. Edgy and honest, straightforward and lyrically compelling, the tunes on this new disc envelope her sense of hope and humour through the dark and moody material."

"One thing I know about Janine Stoll is that she has an ability to write the perfect song. Although, she never just writes one perfect song or even a few perfect songs here and there. Consistently, Janine writes one perfect song after the other, each one standing on its own as a masterpiece, brilliant and distinct. Pure, strong voice, haunting melodies, astonishingly mature lyrics and story telling. If you’re looking for good indie music, then this is the complete package. You can't go wrong with Janine Stoll."

"Stoll is an extremely talented singer-songwriter who has performed with many acclaimed artists. She is capable of singing in various styles (folk, funk, rock, punk, jazz, country) with unflinching authenticity. With a voice that is at times reminiscent of Sarah Harmer, other times Alanis Morissette, Stoll is an amazing songwriter who has a penchant for melodically delicious songs, both up and down-tempo. As far as the Toronto music scene goes, most people are just learning about Janine Stoll and her talent, but she won't remain a secret for long."
