Artist History Examination of the... was formed in July of 2000 from the ashes of Eclipse of Eden. Tanner Olson and Dustin Bushon formed the band with Joe Ross and Eric from Eclipse of Eden. As this line-up they played Hecklefest in Sarasota, FL and various midwest dates. Soon, Joe left the band to continue work with the Chickenhawks from Sioux City, IA. Joe was soon replaced by Dan Nissen to play drums. At this time, the band was living in four different cities. Eric left the band due to a lack of enthusiasm and Damian took his place but shortly after was kicked out due to personal differences. At this time the band had a fifteen date midwest tour planed and were in need of a bass player. Tim Jewell ,at the time playing in Spirit of Versailles, agreed to fill in for the tour in April of 2001. Tour ended with a final decision of Tim playing full time. Upon return, EXAM recorded a ten song cd and was soon released by Forge Again Records. While recording, Jon Tvrdik was asked to join for further experimentation with the construction of EXAM’s music. Then in the summer of 2001 the band set up a two month tour of the U.S., but were facing one problem, Tim was responsible for touring with Spirit of Versailles at the same time. So once again they were looking for a replacement for tour. While playing a show in Mankato, MN, the band met Erik Torkelson and asked for his help playing bass for tour. Erik agreed and moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. to learn the songs. The tour was a success, and was decided upon return that Erik would stay with the band as well. Now with a solid line-up the band wrote new songs and planned another month tour of the east coast in October 2001. Set to play with bands such as Origin, Converge, LickGoldenSky, The Blood Brothers, as well as The Faint. Tour quickly ended, and EXAM had yet, another flawless month tour. The band was in full swing. Tim, Dan, Tanner , Dustin, Erik and Jon soon entered the studio again to record a five song Ep to be released on Hawthorne Street Records who have also housed bands such as Bloodlet, LickGoldenSky, Deadguy, and Drowningman, to name a few. The Ep, entitled Lady in the Radiator, was scheduled to be released mid February 2002. Over the year and a half of the bands existence EXAM have toured the U.S. in depth, playing around one hundred and fifty shows. As well as recording for a split seven inch with In Loving Memory from Des Moines, IA (which is now out of print). In addition, a full length cd entitled, We are the Architects of Desire, (available from Forge Again Records). And lastly, a cd Ep, once again entitled Lady in the Radiator (available from Hawthorne Street Records) and are also currently writing new material for a second full length. Plans for a three month summer tour are also in the works. The band is also planning a ten date tour of the midwest in August and plan to tour for the months of October and November to support the release of their next full length to be recorded in August-September at Godcity with Kurt Ballou. As for the extended future, Examination of the... plan to tour relentlessly as well as to continue to write music for future releases.
