CONTACT HIGH BACKGROUNDER (updated 4/12/02)
New York-based rock band, Contact High, is all about connections. Whether it’s between members, with their audience, or the audience vibing with each other through common interest, the theme of CH’s music is that everyone connects and filters within through each other. It’s a feeling to expand horizons… whether emotionally, spiritually or, in the band’s case, musically.
The Beginnings:
CH was formed when professional lives and personal lives collided for talented artists. In November 2000, songwriter Anthony Recchia began writing again after a multi-year break. Eager to introduce his 4-year-old daughter to music, he decided to buy her a guitar (and one for himself, too). Doing so proved to be inspirational for Anthony because the music started flowing and Tied To One, CH’s first song, was written. After writing five more songs, Anthony met T.C., a new co-worker, in June 2001. That chance meeting brought great songs together with a star-quality voice and the project was born.
The Band:
Anthony took T.C. to visit an old friend, drummer/producer David Tannenbaum. After jamming and arranging through the summer, they decided to record some material in early September. David recruited a fellow studio owner/producer, Kennan Keating, to play lead guitar and engineer the tracks. Within three months, a four-song EP was produced and a great live sound was being developed around songs written both individually and through collaboration. Bass player Chris Altenhoff, who had done session work with David, was the last piece to the puzzle and CH began showcasing in January 2002. A writing project had moved to the next level.
The members of CH hail from New York City, Queens, and New Jersey. David, Kennan and Chris all have professional music backgrounds, while T.C. was previously singing covers. Anthony contributes musically and lyrically to Contact High, however his last live performance was 3/05 at the Elbow room.
Airplay:
CH has moved swiftly thanks to the incredible support of friends and the artistic community. “ Kurt’s Song” and “ Beautiful Hue” have been aired on College (Monroe and Delaware) and Internet radio (Blowup radio and Radio Mike). Both songs were also included in a 10-minute independent short: Elbow Talk (www.whitevioletpictures.com), which will be released this summer. Write-ups of Contact High have appeared in The Queens Chronicle and the Queens Forum… and the Club dates keep coming…
Upcoming Shows and Recordings:
Contact High is in the process of recording their first full length CD; the CD release party will be held at the NYC club, Downtime (257west 30th), Thursday, May 30th at 7:30Pm.
