Artist History
Born in Savannah, Ga., Haywood Gregory started singing in church at the age of seven. Soul, funk, rhythm, jazz and jump blues, Gregory has shared the stage with Bruce Springsteen, BB King, Carl Perkins, Bobby Watson, Morgan Freeman, Dion, Bruce Willis, Freddie Jackson, Liza Minnelli, Tony Bennett, George Coleman and many many more great stars. He has toured with the Roy Gerson Orchestra and received glowing reviews. Haywood also toured throughout the world, including performances at the 36th Montreux Jazz Festival (Switzerland), Newport Jazz Festival (RI), 20th Savannah Jazz Festival (GA), The Lunt Fontanne Theatre (NY) and Donnerstag (Koln, Germany). In 1988 Haywood was on Broadway in "Gospel at Colonus" in New York. Haywood made his "MOVIE" debut on the big screen in the movie (The King of New York) starring Christopher Walken. In addition to numerous appearances on the Joe Franklin Show, Haywood has toured America and Europe. In 1997 he recorded the last concert CD with the legendary Eddie Harris and Bernard Purdie in Koln, Germany. He also featured on the Killer Joe CD "Scene of the Crime" with Joe Delia, Max Weinberg, Jon Bon Jovi, The Beach Boys, Branford Marsalis, Phoebe Snow and Southside Johnny. In late 1997 Haywood recorded his own CD on the Gregota Label, Haywood and Jeannie Gregory Swingin with the Romero Brothers. The New Jersey General Assembly and New Jersey State Senate has honored Haywood with two *Resolutions* as a world class musician who have devoted his talent to the cause of the Vietnam Veterans and their families. In May 2001, he recorded The Bluesjumpers with Haywood Gregory, "Livin' Like A King". The CD have received glowing reviews nationwide. Haywood Gregory continues to be very active in the music industry through his full membership in ASCAP, NMPA and HFA. He is the president of Gregota Records and Publishing LLC. Surveying from his vast experience the fanciful measures of so much show business, Haywood came to a point in his life where he decided that if he couldn't be the best at his craft he would quit the business. That however is very unlikely. Because of his love for music his ability and his unrelenting quest for perfection the vision on the horizon is that Haywood Gregory will not only survive but he will prevail. |
