Artist History
Freefighter formed during the Fall of 2000 as a colaboration between Jared Erb, Ben Greene and Scott Hsu. In the beginning it was only 2 guitars and a bass. Jarod Erb had many songs written and Scott and Ben joined him to jam. These early sessions were not very fruitful and after the first "practice" the general feeling between us was that our musical styles were too different (Jared:punk, Scott:Primus/slap, Ben:grundge metal). However, God had a plan for us and we continued to play together and learn Jared's songs. Around mid December/early January Chris Nelson returned from YWAM training in Australia. We asked him to play drums. Chris came from a jazz/rock background but learned the punk style very quickly. Around this time we decided that we were going to work towards recording a cd and practice regularly as a band. We played our first gig during late winter 2001 (for Young Life). After much thought and prayer we decided on the name Freefighter for the band (Free from the old life yet still engaged in a constant battle against sin). From then on we worked towards the recording of our cd. In early June 2001 we recorded with Rusty Annis at Shoestring Studio in Belchertown, MA. We were initially dissapointed with the results and decided to take a break (we went our seperate ways for the summer). In late August Jared went back into the studio and spent a week of 12hr days adding guitars, vocals, cutting, pasting and tracking the songs. Out of the 10+ songs that we recorded 8 were set aside for the cd. The disk was finally mixed and finished by Rusty Annis and Freefighter in February 2002. |
