Artist description
What is drives away? Some would be quick to pigeonhole it as "emotional rock" or maybe as a post-punk hybrid. But drives away is not so easily dismissed. Combining melodic guitar arrangements and beautiful harmonies, drives away creates an edgy, yet aesthetically pleasing sound that sticks with you throughout the day. The appeal is universal, as the lyrics speak directly to the soul, connecting the listener to the music and creating a bond that makes their live show an experience in and of itself. This new breed of rock is music that transcends genres and rightfully distances itself from the pre-packaged boy bands that seem to dominate the airwaves. They are the future of music.
Formed in 1998, drives away began as a group of friends who shared a common bond, a passion for music, and a yearning to perform. Endless basement practices paved the way for their eventual emergence into the spotlight. Drives away began playing benefit concerts and free shows, anything to have their music heard. They would set up in the street, only to have police officers disperse the growing crowd. With the addition of another guitarist after six months, the concept and substance of drives away came together.
The freedom this entailed has given them the opportunity to expand their musical boundaries, and to pursue an independently released LP "Road to Nowhere" in the early months of 2000. An eclectic blend of musical influences, "Road to Nowhere" proved that drives away had a future. After several club dates in support of the album, with crowds at some points swelling to over 200 people, drives away settled down to develop an increasingly impressive portfolio of songs.
This summer, drives away plans to again tour to showcase their new material and to support their recently released EP entitled "The Autumn Evening EP." Always true to the music, drives away is a band brimming with potential, and a vision that will carry that potential through to fruition. Drives away is the band that this new generation yearns for, a band that is real, a band that feels what they feel, a band that embodies the music that speaks to us all. They are drives away.
