REVIEW FROM WWW.GODSOFMUSIC.COM First we need the setting: Richard Gere marries Julia Roberts. Julia really loves Richard... the guy who promised to be there... always and forever. But as time goes on Richard realizes that he is not in love with Julia anymore. He's not sure he ever was. Instead his heart yearns for...say....Meg Ryan. Julia doesn't know about Meg but she knows something is not right. The spark has gone cold. The magic gone. Julia finally realizes the truth one rainy night: Richard doesn't love her anymore. She stares out the window of her upscale apartment in the city. A tear slides down her face as the thunder rumbles lightly in the background... That's when the piano intro to Lila Brown's "Now My Heart Is Breaking" fills the theatre. And for the next four minutes there's not a dry eye to be found. In Hollywood somehow it would work out. Richard would realize he did love her. Or maybe Jay-Lo would train Julia to kill Richard and Meg or some other nonsense. Though I really do think her song is perfect for a soundtrack, Lila's tale seems a bit more real than that. In the real world time doesn't heal all wounds and sometimes there is no silver lining. Just more dark clouds. Lila Brown's beautiful and emotional voice pours it's heart out as the piano cries along with her. A little backing synth spices up the bridge and chorus. The lyrics do an exceptional job of relating the well-known story of lost love. The pacing of the song is done well. You don't get a feel that you're being rushed to the chorus and you don't feel like you waited too long for a change either. The production sounds professional and polished. The very human element that's needed to pull off a song such as this comes through perfectly. It's a very well done and well performed piece of music. The song is listed as "new country" on her mp3.com site but I didn't hear even a note of twang. I wondered what made it country at all. Perhaps I have a misunderstanding of the genre because my roots are in rock. Either way, it's a song that could be played on any pop vocal type of radio station. Overall, the song is catchy, very-well done, and deserves attention. Go on, have a listen. You'll thank me.
